The current issue of LMD (german edition) brings in a short note and images of the last year’s exhibition ‘Frontières‘ (french) with by geograph and cartographer Philippe Rekacewicz. The show which focusses on small handdrawn sketches, and puts its emphasis on the changing situations maps are subject to, is now presented under the title ‘Borders and Migration’. A documentation of the material, which has been touring in some city in France and the Swiss, has been published on the LMD blog Visions cartographiques under the title L’Europe et ses frontières paradoxales by its author Philippe Rekacewicz.

Le monde contemporain est traversé de plus de 226 000 kilomètres de frontières terrestres. Alors que l’Union européenne est engagée depuis longtemps dans un processus de dévaluation de ces barrières, que
les organisations «sans frontières» sont innombrables et que la mondialisation appelle à effacer les obstacles à la circulation des hommes, des produits et des images, jamais on n’a autant parlé des questions de frontières. Pourquoi ? C’est ce que l’exposition « Frontières » (1) explore, dans une démarche alliant histoire et géopolitique, photos et témoignages, sons et cartes, réflexions générales et études de terrain. … (read on)
